Types of Lunar Eclipses and the Process of Their Occurrence
A lunar eclipse is a disaster in which the moon, earth and sun are in a straight line. Therefore the earth will cast a shadow that will cover all or part of the moon. In addition, the earth also blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. There are some opinions that the process of the occurrence of a lunar eclipse is more frequent than the process of a solar eclipse. But that opinion is wrong. Solar eclipses occur 238 times every century, while lunar eclipses occur 154 times every century. The types of lunar eclipses are very different from the types of solar eclipses. We more often observe lunar eclipses every night, this is because lunar eclipses last longer than solar eclipses.
Below is the general process of the occurrence of a lunar eclipse, namely:
- The moon that was initially shining brightly was then gradually covered by shadows and turned black. The black shadow came from the earth.
- The moon will be covered in shadows more and more until it is only partially visible and will be shaped like a crescent.
- After the crescent-shaped moon, then the moon will completely disappear because it is covered by the shadow of the earth. That’s when we don’t see the moon at all, it’s like the moon seems to be disappearing.
- Then the moon will look back like it was at the starting point we saw it for the first time. The full view of the moon begins when it is crescent-shaped first and then becomes partially visible. After the moon is partially shaped, it will then change shape into a full moon.
Kinds of Lunar Eclipse
