Wireless is if from the meaning of the word it can be interpreted “without cables”, which is to carry out a telecommunications connection using electromagnetic waves as a substitute for cable media. Currently wireless technology has developed rapidly, the evidence can be seen with the increasing number of people who use cellular phones, besides that wireless technology is also developing which is used to access the internet.
Functions of Wireless
Wireless has several functions which are described below:
- The user does not have a limited range of motion in the range from a single point of the WiFi transmitter.
- The distance on the WiFi system can reach up to an area of 100 feet or a 30 m radius. In addition, the WiFi system can be strengthened with special equipment such as a booster that functions as a relay and is able to cover a wider distance.
- Wireless devices as WiFi can be used easily with a fairly cheap installation fee
- The coverage area is more flexible because it is not limited by the distribution network, unlike when using UTP and fiber optic cables.
- Wireless provides the possibility for LANs to be installed wirelessly, thereby reducing installation costs as well as network expansion.
- Wireless Access Point (WAP) has a function to manage data traffic, thus providing the possibility for many subscribers to connect to each other through one network.
- WAP can function as a hub or switch that connects local networks with wireless.
- Used to set the Access Point to perform its function as a DHCP server.
- In addition, WiFi can be installed in areas that can’t even be reached by cabling, namely outdoor areas.

- The signal quality is affected by air and weather conditions, meaning that the quality of the connection when the weather is good will be different
